I don't know but I sure like it! Thanks for posting, hopefully MTH makes one!
That's an "AC44C6M"- an AC-traction unit rebuilt from a standard-cab D9-40C. They're being done at GE, Juniata and Roanoke, and each shop has its own variation of the paint scheme. First two units were blue where that one is black.
An MTH DASH 9 can be painted in this scheme, but would it be too late for them to include THIS ONE in the in the 2017 catalog that has to be finished and printed in 4 weeks?

Ugly !!
I think it's awesome!! I would also love them to do a "negative" version of their normal paint scheme. All white, with black lettering, stripes, and logo. That would be a good anniversary paint job!
Kind of puts me in mind of a Santa Fe war-bonnet scheme!

Would you like to keep an al white diesel loco clean ?? Especially a GE ? Funny but I thought the same thing about it looking a little like a war bonnet scheme - but it isn't. Some of these NS paint schemes lately have been petty ugly, I think. They should talk to GM about styling.
I know GM doesn't own EMD any more, meant it more as a joke than anything.
Joking is not appropriate when discussing the seriousness of model trains

It is a GE unit anyway!
My bad-like cracking jokes in church. Yes, being a GE was part of the humor, I thought. Too subtle. Back in the day, when GM owned EMD and had the GM Institute they came up with some nice styling.

If you are thinking of painting & styling designs, there really isn't much that can be done with the current "ease of manufacturing & crash worthy designed" boxy front ends of modern units. The folks at Norfolk Southern, however, did some very nice styling designs trying to adapt their "heritage" styling to the current modern units.
I give NS a for trying to keep things fresh!
I like that the paint scheme is different, presume it is a horse's head. Would I buy a model of it, no (but I'm not a huge NS modeler anyway.)
Jim
I agree with all that but the latest offerings don't do much for me. I like NS, will be trying to photograph their trains tomorrow but the latest designs are billboards. I wonder if the big, flat engine designs frustrate the grafitti artists ?? WE can be thankful that the designers of AMTRAK engines aren't in charge.

I wondered the same thing. It could only be an improvement.

This is serious business, Jim. That's your first strike. Two more, and .......
Anyway, as much as I like all the varied diesel paint schemes .... I don't like these, regardless of the colors chosen.
Maybe I'm just too accustomed to the simple boldness (or is it elegance ?) of the NS black & white.

Swafford,
Thanks for posting the 'blue face' units - Really sharp paint scheme.
Too many of the recent ones are like billboards and this latest is too much of a gimmick to be good art. But everyone can have an opinion.
It does not excite me.
I like it, especially the blue version. At first it made me think of a circular saw blade, warbonnet never even crossed my mind. As soon as someone mentioned the mane it became obvious to me. Since the different shops are producing different colors which color combo comes form which shop and what's the third combo?

Looks like a version of the mane of their Logo Stallion:

Pretty clever. 4004 looks sharp in the scheme.
Here's my favorite Norfolk Southern paint scheme:
Of course, it's a different NS - no, wait! - it's not - the New one bought the Old one, so it's all the same.
BTW - this one's not a GE or an EMD (either General Motors or non-General Motors incarnation). It's a Baldwin. Smallest N.American Berks ever built, I believe. Wound up with ASARCO, then Mexican National.

I like it!
If they do a bunch of these guys, maybe they can do a few in Heritage schemes again , maybe a bit different then the first ones.
I agree on the small Berkshire.

Hello John,
Did you say Heritage Schemes?.............................A few NS Heritage color schemes my way..........................................
Regards,
Frank
They will all work Frank, I would send them over to NS who knows maybe they will use them, does not hurt to try, you do very good work.
Hey Frank, do you have a CB&Q fantasy scheme?
Haha sweet, I like the top two the most
