My bad-like cracking jokes in church. Yes, being a GE was part of the humor, I thought.  Too subtle.  Back in the day, when GM owned EMD and had the GM Institute they came up with some nice styling.

If you are thinking of painting & styling designs, there really isn't much that can be done with the current "ease of manufacturing & crash worthy designed"  boxy front ends of modern units. The folks at Norfolk Southern, however, did some very nice styling designs trying to adapt their "heritage" styling to the current modern units.

This is serious business, Jim. That's your first strike. Two more, and .......

Anyway, as much as I like all the varied diesel paint schemes .... I don't like these, regardless of the colors chosen.

Maybe I'm just too accustomed to the simple boldness (or is it elegance ?) of the NS black & white.

Matt

I like it, especially the blue version.  At first it made me think of a circular saw blade, warbonnet never even crossed my mind.  As soon as someone mentioned the mane it became obvious to me.  Since the different shops are producing different colors which color combo comes form which shop and what's the third combo?

Here's my favorite Norfolk Southern paint scheme:

Of course, it's a different NS - no, wait! - it's not - the New one bought the Old one, so it's all the same.

BTW - this one's not a GE or an EMD (either General Motors or non-General Motors incarnation). It's a Baldwin. Smallest N.American Berks ever built, I believe. Wound up with ASARCO, then Mexican National.

Another photo of NS AC44C6M 4002 taken at Altoona earlier this evening. Although the view is partially obstructed, it's interesting to note two of the units in the photo. In the foreground is retired NS/NW EMD SD40 1580, which has recently been restored to operating condition at the NS Juniata Shops. The 1580, the first N&W SD40, will get repainted and eventually will be donated to a museum. In the middle left, is the front of NS 1000, which is actually retired former Conrail Q#1, which is used to test rebuilt locomotive engines. It is former Conrail SD45 6097/Erie Lackawanna 3632. Photo credit to Marc Lingenfelter.
