I have a pw 2035 that I am thinking of painting the steamchest to match the body which is in good shape. The body is black but the steamchest is sort of grayish and doesn't look painted to me anyway. Do I need to use a primer on it or can I just paint over it. Thanks

The steam chest is chemically blackened and painting it will reduce its collector value. If that is not a concern then I would prim it and paint it with a satin, not flat black.
thanks for your reply, I don't think theres much collector value to this one, no smoke unit, repro boiler front and only paid $25 for it with no tender so I'm going to experiment with it and paint it.
