Hi,

I'm trying to do a 3-to-2 rail conversion of the earlier Atlas O 100 ton roller bearing trucks using the #7036 kit. While the instructions say to go ahead and screw back on the cover plate that came with the 3 rail truck, I was wondering if Atlas had released a cover plate exclusively for 2 rail trucks that eliminated the 3 rail coupler extension? If so, what is the part number?

Thanks,

I don't recall seeing the two-rail part advertised for separate sale, but you probably could get it from Bill Seratelli in Atlas's parts department. But it is pretty easy to cut off that three-rail coupler extension. A rotary tool makes short work of it. I think I've even snapped it off with pliers after a few passes with a saw blade to score the joint. RM

Update: I've called Atlas's parts dept. a day or two ago. No dice, as they don't sell basic truck parts separately (with the exception of the sideframe springs). However, I did manage to get the 3-rail coupler extention cut off with a borrowed drill with metal cut-off disk. NOW I see why everyone just opts for going ahead and buying the 2 rail trucks in the first place and do a simple swap!
