Ben and I haven't been talking ....just saw his post and I have another TIU problem....

I have a RevL.....bought it about 2 years ago to replace my original 2002 model.  Never had signal problems but I only have a 3 level, 2X16, 6X16 & 6X8 layout. Was running a RK New Haven Hudson with 3 lighted cars on Variable1 and a 5 car TMCC freight on Variable 2. Suddenly, all power went out. No red light/ short on the Z 4000.

The TIU was being powered from an MTH cord (from an MTH 50 watt transformer).

Both Variable outputs are dead.  I had the Fixed Outlets unplugged (they go to my subways).  They still work.

No light in the TIU anymore.  The TIU feels hot as h*** over the Vaiable 1 area. No way I overloaded this unit......but why did the circuits to the Variable Outlet fail?

Is it worth fixing? Looks like I'm running out to Chesterfield Hobbies for another.....If it can be fixed I'll keep it as a spare.

I took it into Chesterfield Hobbies.....

1. Fixed Channels work when you power it through Fixed1 only.

2. Neither Variable Channel works no matter how you power it.

3. The red light never goes on.

4. All the fises are fine.

5. Nothing smells burnt.

6. Neither the circuit breaker on the Z4000 pwering the mains nor the Z500 brick, that was powering the TIU separately, tripped.

It's in the shop. A new one on order.  If it can be fixed, it will be my spare....which I guess I need to have around.
