Have a TIU about 3 years old.  Been working on the layout and find that I have no power output on either of the variable channels.  I removed the TIU from layout and connected to a separate transformer and power supply.  Put inputs from the transformer into each of the channels.  I got measured output on the fixed channels, but no outputs on the variable channels.  Went in and changed fuses but still no output, do I need to get a new TIU?  Any clue what might have damaged these two channels?

Dick,

B efor eyou can get volage out of a variable channel, you must assig to it a TIU track and turn the voltage up from the TR screen.

Alternatively, you can set the variable channels to Fixed mode of operation. In a few words, do the following:

  • PresMenu/System and scroll to DCS Setup
  • Scroll to one of the variable channels
  • Pres soft key S5, FXD to put the channel into fixed mode
  • Repeat for the other variable channel.

For all of the details, refer to page 45 of The DCS O Gauge Comapnion 2nd Edition.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!
