OK, here is another interesting listing from the bay.

There was no Girls Train run during the MPC era, the first by Lionel was in 1991.
So is this a repaint by someone ?

Looks like a put together item. Maybe a PW shell on an MPC chassie. Not worth nothing IMO.
Not a postwar shell as they did not have marker lites as shown in the photo.
K-Line made some girls trains, could be a K-line shell. Still worth nothing.
I emailed the guy asking him what shell it really is. I told him it is not a PW shell. I'll let you know what happens.
I think it must be a home-made, as the paintwork does not look in any way professional. Also, it appears to be a few wheels short of a real 2037-500.

Hard to believe MPC didn't consider a "new" Girls Set. Isn't that the loco from the Milwaukee Rd./B'way Ltd./ Capt. Ltd.?

I believe these two statements are correct. a repainted lionel mpc atlantic being passed off as "rare"
All his other items are also RARE

He responded saying it is a mpc shell and there is no marking on the tender shell. Most likely a repaint he is trying to pawn off to some sucker.
That's a repaint. The Lionel Girls Train was a 2-6-4. I believe the K-Line remake was as well (although they were initially released with a pink diesel.) By the way, K-Line offered a trade-in with the diesels for the steam locomotives (they weren't ready in time,) but you could send them $100 (IIRC) and keep the diesel if you wanted to. Supposedly, the pink diesel is worth more than the the whole set.
What you guys are missing is the tender says Pennsylvania. it should be Lionel Lines. also the engine is supposed to have 6 drive wheels. The color is wrong, & there is lots more wrong.

I'm very rusty when it comes to post war, but those were the first things I noticed.
Actually, a lot of work went into this piece. It isn't easy getting everything wrong.
Caveat emptor!
I noticed that the seller called himself a TCA member. Interesting.

And you're missing the point completely -- as are others. He's not claiming it's a POSTWAR Girls engine & tender which it obviously is NOT, he's says it's MPC and possibly prototype/sample for some not-produced MPC-era "Girly" set, shall we say. It's not WRONG. It's either a sample or it's a fake.

The seller probably got his signatures from two people who didn't know him.
Or perhaps he joined recently. (Signatures are no longer required)
Gilbert Ives - I agree with your point, as the seller is not specifically saying it is a prototype. They are are saying it may be a prototype and up to the buyer to decide, nothing wrong with that.
For what its worth, I have purchased an item or two from this seller before and it was
100 percent legitimate. With a feedback rating of 100 percent and almost 1000 transactions to their name, the seller must be doing something right.
On eBay, anyone can SAY they are a TCA member, whether they are actually a member or not.
Just to answer a question that came up, I have attached a few pictures of the first Girls Train that was produced by K-Line in 1991, in conjunction with the defunct Toy Train Historical Foundation.
Th engine is a 4-6-2, Pacific, made from the 333 Marx tooling that K-Line acquired and upgraded, along with a caboose also have Marx lineage.
The engine was not ready when the first group of sets were due to ship, so K-Line created a pink version of their MP-15, gave it the same number as the steamer, and shipped it with the first batch of sets. When the steamer was ready, it was shipped to the set buyers, along with a yellow peabody hopper car as a thank you gift for the delay.
Purchasers of the set had the option of keeping the pink MP-15 for $99.00, or returning them to K-Line. The ones that were returned, were used for other MP-15 liveries, and the pink shells were trashed.

Indeed. Pretty easy to check on TCA membership and one can always ask. Seems quite foolish to lie about, and if not, buyer has PayPal/Ebay support. And TCA members always have complaint system to use against another member, Ebay or not.
As to the item, well, MPC did their prototypes fast and on the cheap as one can see in the McComas book. Even on the proposed Flyer Hudson that appeared in the catalog, the "prototypes" were merely relettered Gilbert Hudsons -- and this was post MPC. Didn't even bother to polish the rods & valve gear.
