I just wanted to know that I did follow up with an email to Mike Petronella who is the York Chairman on the Smart Phone and iPad issue where it pertains to data use only in either the form of accessing a list or an online source.
Unfortunately he was unable to give us a definitive answer on those uses. But he did re-enforce the policy on picture taking and phone call aspects of these devices. So at this time we are still sort of in that gray area as it pertains to these device when being used in a non phone and camera capacity but the emphasis of enforcement of the rule from Mike seemed to be on the phone and camera capacity of these device and not the data use.
I did suggest to Mike that the York organizers at some point define these devices and their roll at the meet.
I ask that this thread be locked as I don not want to regurgitate the whole debate again. But I did want to pass along the information I received.
