According to the engine's user guide, it's 3 volt PS2.
It is 3v. I have a few engines and could not answer that door question on any of them. I do not care. I am a toy train guy. Many that do open are a monster pain when the cheap hinges snap.
If it is something u really want to know, I have that engine in my York pile and will look for you.
Marty..only if its not too much trouble..the later NS heritage SD70's and ES44's have the the opening nose and cab doors..it is quite obvious i like this feature
The hinged nose door opens and operates with a working handle. The right side rear cab door opens the same.
