Anyone know if DCS signal prefers DP or SP toggles for controlling a yard with stub-end tracks on it? I am wiring in a simple yard off the mainline - it'll have yard throat and 3 sidings via 4 Ross switches - thus 4 tracks that I want to be able to turn power and command signal on/off to. I have Radio Shack heavy duty SP toggle switches - rated at 6 amps at 125 VAC - and the DP are rated at 10 amps at 125 VAC.

I know that the engines will likely come up in conventional mode upon powering toggles - that's something I'll have to live with, I just want the command signal to work once I hit "startup."

Thanks.

Paul,

DCS will work equally well with either SPST or DPDT switches - it makes absolutely no difference which ones you use. Just be certain that the switch is rated for the maximum amp load that you expect to draw and to interrupt the Hot circuit (center rail).

If you want to use the DPDT switches simply because they are rated at 10 amps and the SPST switches are rated at 6 amps, you can simply just wire one side of the switch for the Hot circuit (center rail) and reserve the other side of the switch for some other use, such as a power-on indicator, etc.
