While listening to the LCCA Day 4 Notch6 podcast, I understood Mike Reagan to say he had the Texas Special StationSounds car onsight.  Thought I then heard him say he also had a matching baggage car, then something about all 6 cars.  So it's not clear what's really there on display at the convention.

If ANY 21" passenger cars are on display, what are your thoughts?  Impressed? Any photos you can share?

I pre-ordered the Empire State Express train earlier this year.  And then about a month ago I also ordered a Texas Special 6-car pack from Charlie Ro -- way after the deadline, but Charlie had fortunately ordered "extras".

I also thought I heard Mike R say the production StationSounds cars are "on the water" for arrival late August / early September... a bit earlier than originally scheduled (i think).

thanks for any preliminary feedback convention attendees might be able to provide.

There is a lot of anticipation about Lionel's new 21" passenger cars to be produced in plastic. Of particular interest is the finish on sets like the ESE. They have a wonderful opportunity IF they release cars that look like they just came out of the production facility. Let's hope that this is what we can expect.

Thanks Mike W, great to hear your positive feedback.  However if those are 21" cars, i thought they were to be produced in plastic.  So I'm a bit confused by your comment about "unpainted aluminum".  Did you intend to say, "not painted aluminum"?

i thought the Texas Special passenger cars, originally catlg'd as 18" aluminum, were cancelled.   Perhaps what you saw were the new 21" plastic cars with a finish that "appears" to be glossy red aluminum?  Which would be a good thing.

Thanks, Chris.  Have fun at the convention!  From this initial feedback, I'm glad I ordered a set!!!

Again, I thought the Neil Young 15" cars were made of aluminum. That would explain the comment that they looked like unpainted aluminum.

They are cataloged as having aluminum bodies and I now remember a few days back there was a thread started by Charlie Nassau reporting that they are shipping:

So I fear that this is a false alarm as regards the 21" cars. In any event I was not expecting to see any samples of those until York in October at earliest.

I'd love to be proved wrong.

Guys, I completely forgot that the Neil Young 15" passenger cars had a Texas Special livery w/StationSounds.    So this very well may be what's on display at the LCCA convention.  In any event, 15-inch cars are noticeably shorter than 21", so it should be easy to tell what we're dealing with here in very short order.

Sorry for the false alarm, if in fact it's the Neil Young series 15" cars that are being displayed this week.  My bad.  I was really hoping to see a preview of the 21-inchers, after I heard the podcast this morning.  We may need to wait a few more months to see those.
