20210522_110054On our way back.  Definately worth the $6.00 senior admission fee.  Prices were better than  the NJ shows I'm used to.  Lots to see as it is a museum of all forms of transportation.   Highlight was seeing 611 under steam.  If you plan on going and not taking the train rides, don't stand in line at the station ticket booth, go directly to the backshop where the train show is and buy your tickets there.   They have a diesel powered freight train doing a tour with vintage equipment. Too much to see to post.

Does that mean the 611 is already fixed and back together?

Yep,...I was there today too,....great time,...611 is getting ready for the move,....although museum staffers didn’t say exactly when,.....I wasn’t expecting to see that locomotive there today,....so it was a surprise, .....the NC Transportation Museum is a “must see” .....that museum is stone’s throw for me,...

Steve,

You're not kidding.

My last encounter with her under steam was a long, long, long, time ago.

Here's what she looked like then.  This photo was originally taken on Kodachrome 200 (06/25/1994, Allen Park, MI), and scanned for me years later by a professional shop.

How does the apparent appearance (color) of this stripe compare?:

It may not be easy to tell because of the rippled texture of the sheet metal.  (I should've taken it at an angle that would have removed the affects of the sun angle.  But without a digital camera, at the time, I had to wait for the film to be developed in order to see my shortcoming.)

Mike, thank you for adding your photo for comparison.  I think the rippled texture confirms what I was thinking: that the angle of the light source has a big impact on the appearance of the color(s), (in addition to the light level).  In Pat's photo, the dark smoke plume between the sun and the side of the 611 seems to be absorbing some of the direct sunlight, resulting in the apparently darker color, compared to Joe's photo.  The color differences are also likely in part due to the different cameras used to take these photos.

What was/is also interesting to me, are the variations in different paint colors used for the stripe on the different O gauge models of the 611. Those colors more or less run the gamut of the photographed colors seen here in these posts.  I guess my point is that color similarities/differences, in addition to being somewhat subjective, also have much to do with the camera used, camera angle, light level, light color, and light angle.  At least, none of these pics make the stripe look mint green.

IMO, two things are certain, the 611 is an enormous and beautiful machine.

After clearing my sales table finally got out to 611.  I know they were doing some repair to her, believe it was an issue with an air pump.  The fellow vendor beside me was out there earlier and got some pics of them working on her showing some of the lower forward front cowling removed and the repair crew at work.

@george posted:

Any other train shows in NC?  I live in Fuquay-Varina  but will travel for a show.

Before Covid there were two shows in Hickory, two or three in Raleigh and one or two near Asheville yearly.  There use to be seven or eight shows in Charlotte now none not respective to Covid.  In fact there are NO toy train stores in Charlotte once there were seven or eight in the area.

I see there was one in Hickory this past April, these are put on by the "TarheelPress."
