I got to York Monday at 12:30 and went to the Four Points train show and the Wyndham train show.  Went back to the Wyndham on Tuesday and Wednesday.   I came to York this time hoping to keep my money in my pockets and have failed miserably.  A couple of estate liquidations did the most damage to my wallet.   I got a mint 3 engine set of Lionel Wabash GP engines for $250.  I really like that darker blue livery.  A NOS set of Williams DRG 2379 F3s for $160. Remakes of the postwar type engines with mesh screens, portholes, grab irons, etc.  38 pcs of new 40 in Lionel track for $150.  AF bubbling water tower, AF 4 bulb light tower, Colber 4 bulb light tower all intact no breaks for $10 a piece.  A LN Lionel 027 gauge SF AA Alco with 7 red stripe pass cars for $160.00.   Some really crisp nobox SD90, SD40, GP9 Williams dual motored engines for $55.00 each.  A ton of boxed MPC rolling stock for $10 and no box ones for $5.00.

Not the latest and greatest but it gets me a start on my new layout with budget to spare.

Anybody else find good stuff or stuff they needed?

Trivial items, BUT, what l was looking for, which beats not finding what you are looking for! And the FG ain't even open yet....

That made me chuckle.  Sounds like you're batting .999 at this time.

Next time I go to the grocery store just for ice cream, and get it, I probably think of your post.  I went to a store with a thousand things to choose from and found exactly what I wanted.

I am never that lucky at York.  I was looking for lots of track and found some.  Good.  I wanted the PWC Denver Rio Grande engines only, and found the Williams 2379 remakes instead.  Okay.  But I don't understand how all that other stuff got in my car and took my money.

And the fairgrounds is 30min from opening.

I finished up with two more Williams F3 AA sets NOS for 300.  9 MTH switches with motors and controls for 40.  A huge Texas& Pacific lionel steamer with die-cast tender, a shelf queen never run for 180,00 no box. 3 new Southern Pacific F3 daylight shells with no hardware for 10 each.  A box of about 50+ passenger car lighting circuit boards half led half incandescent  for 25.  I wanted the pcbs for lighting projects.  Some MTH freight trucks with pickup rollers for 7.50. A couple of uranium flatcars for 45 each.  An old MPC motorized drawbridge, nobox for 5.00.  Some insulated rail 072 curves for 1.25 each.  And the MPC DRG F3 ABA set new but no box for 86.

Got a little more than I planned for.

Hey, what happens in York doesn't stay in York.

Haven't found a thing.  Sold some stuff at the Wyndham, but no purchases yet.

I am ok, if I should go home with nothing purchased.

I went home after making no purchases at the fairgrounds, other than lunch on Thursday and Friday.  That was ok with me, as I did not see anything I needed that would go with the rest of my collection.  I also enjoyed seeing the many friends that I have made over the years and having some great seafood during the week!

LIONEL TCA 15" aluminum passenger cars make excellent donors for paint projects because of their inexpensive cost (~$50 delivered on ebay), and the variety of shells:  baggage, combo, RPO (uniquge among 15" aluminum cars), diner, coach, vista dome, full dome, observation ( unique skytop lounge style with interior).

Bought six of them (4 brand new which is irrelevant for my purposes) for $30 ea. from a custom painter who had about a dozen more.  These are inventory, as are the two offset vista domes recently purchased, for a UP project that is months away from starting.  Meanwhile, I'll have some empty boxes to move.

AND, I bought the Nginerring MARS lights for my NP F-3s. and a gyralight for an observation car.  No bargain, but I avoided a shipping charge.

Very pleased with the shopping experience.
