Having some older 5volt PS2 diesels from 2002, if I would decide to change the "electronics PS2 guts" to PS3, is that an easy upgrade or is there more to it then a simple swap out?

Would it be operator friendly or better off having a authorized MTH shop (repair/service) do it?

What do you think the cost would be for doing it myself(when they are available)?

Having the shop do it(supplies and labor)?

well, I was only concerned about diesels, but yes you are correct, locomotive drawbars would be an issue.

So, when PS2 boards were available, what was the cost of the board? $75, $100, $150 ?

Any guess what a PS3 board might cost?

David,  The easier repair for a PS-2 5V system failure is replacing the board with the PS-2 3V with 5V connectors.  The boards retail for $200.  Then using a kit to upgrade the speaker to a 4 ohm vice 16 ohm, and also swap out the 9V for a 2.4 V battery and harness.  This retains all your original harnesses and lights.

The kit is cheaper 180 retail and 150 to club members, but requires more work swapping out harness.  So some times the labor rate makes this a more expensive option then the PS-2 3V with 5V connector repair.

The PS-3 kit (Barry said PS-2 by mistake) is not available yet, but will require lights to be converted to LED, 4 ohm speaker, and harness changes.  Good news is no battery.   G
