I believe the MTH model is one of the factors in Atlas decision to continue to delay production, it has certainly reduced the 3 rail market for them. They apparently have the minimum number of reservations for production [reservations have been closed for a long time now, dealers have been told "standby only"] bear in mind the original tooling is still owned by Sandra Kan so their current factory needs some agreement for use of this tooling, this has been my understanding over the years since the model was first announced.just saying!

For those waiting for the trainman

c40-8w, why not the mth premier models from 2011? Those are some stunning pieces! A world of difference from their 1993 introductory model.

I  bought the MTH 2-rail model and ultimately was disappointed.  Also, the pilots have too many steps.  Judging by preliminary photos, I think the Atlas trainman will be better.

Even if Atlas never releases this, I'll never buy another of the MTH version.

MTH markets a 3 rail product with no real commitment to 1/4 inch scale dimensions /details [close is good enough] I own several of their 50' Hycubes [2 railed] nicely done model but slightly undersize height and width, only a few road names are prototypical. Needless to say if Atlas produces these cars in the future I would be buying, just saying!

The tooling is NOT owned by Sanda Kan.  When we had to move all of our tooling out of Sanda Kan/Kader, there were thousands of molds that had to be moved, production facilities had to be located, and priorities set as to what would be made when and with which factory.  The O scale locomotives took a little longer to get up and running than the HO and N, but we are now producing and getting caught up on the backlog.

We have staff over in China right now and when they get back we should have a better idea of the production schedule for all products through the end of the year.
