I was going to lube up my 2816 hoppers tonight just to see how many a 249e could pull.  Somehow my bottle of 3in1 house hold oil that I usually have at the ready has eluded me.  Since I need to make a hard ware store run anyway, is there any particular oil to use for o gauge tinplate axles?

(I found the white lithium grease I use for the gears, but can’t find the oil anywhere.)

I use straight 30 weight Non-Detergent motor oil on my trains. I use it on my vintage air rifles as it doesn't harm the rubber seals like modern detergent multi-viscosity oils will. Since it works so well on my old pellet guns, I decided to use on my vintage trains. Steel (or tinplate) wheels, axles, frames and trucks have had no issues. I do use La-belle grease for plastic on the gears, even though none of my locos have plastic gears.
