I have several cars that I have been hunting for for a long time. I have some active searches on e-bay that e-mail me when something shows up. I also make sure I do google searches both on part number and on keywords for the item. I would also scour the "for sale" sections of the forums you visit.

If this is a "MUST HAVE BEFORE I DIE" item then you might want to consider placing ads in the "wanted to buy" sections of any site and magazine that you can. Depending on how badly you want it, you could also go with something a step or two up from a classified ad. I realize this is extreme but it really depends on how long (and if) you are willing to wait.

If you really want it, don't give up. Sometimes the hunt is a big part of the thrill.
K-Line did make a #5146 boxcar, in the traditional MoPac colors of blue and gray, with a bright yellow door. The numbering on this one indicates that it is a K-Line item, as they usually added two digits on the end of the number to designate a second (or even third) car in the series.

If this car does exist, it probably is pretty rare. Then again, because it is one of the smaller boxcars from the old Marx tooling, probably not highly sought after.

Perhaps it was included in a special set of some sort . . . or, since this is towards the end of K-Line's production of these cars, perhaps they used some leftover shells from another item.

It took me about eight years to come up with the yellow version of the #5120 B&O boxcar. Some things are just worth the hunt.

HUZZAH!  HUZZAH! Success....after 10+ years of searching, I saw it for only the second time, and bought it!!!!  I can now check off this item from the list.

Boy, this is the one that has been at the top of the list for a LLLLOOONNNNGGGG time.

While it may be obscure and irrelevant to some, for me, it is the one piece that has had me on the hunt.  Why?  Well, I am a die-hard K-Line fan.....while I like Lionel, Williams, MTH/Railking, Bachmann, Weaver all of them, it was K-Line that brought me back to the hobby, it was K-Line that fit the budget and it is K-Line that well, just hit the spot.  I'm not a rivet counter...I play and collect my trains.

Being Missouri born and bred, seeing a rare item (less than 200 made) this pic'd my interest.

Is it an investment?  Dollar wise? No.  But the intrinsic value to me is worth it.

So on the shelf it goes......and occassionally will run with the other K-Line MOPAC cars (I have those too) with the stable of MOPAC Eagle's and on the Midwest Mainline - The Creve Coeur Route!
