Anyone buy the New Red Presidential Set?

I. Ordered the engine from the set but not the cars. The cars are a little big proportion wise for my layout so I may be looking for other AF cars for it at York. I should have the engine by the end of the week and I'll give a full report and pics on it when it gets here.

I have one on layaway,havent seen it in "real"life,hopefully chris will have some pix up this weekend,,,if not they should have them at the mth booth for me to slobber on 

I'll have it by the end of the week and have some pics posted by the weekend. I'll do a short video so you can hear what it sounds like.

Smooth as silk! Sounds are great too. Very cool whistle more of a "toot" sound. The cars that come with the set are beautiful but for a engine this size I don't think it needs to have cars that big. IMO. The smaller cars would look just fine behind this engine especially for a smaller layout.

Very Nice. I saw the set today at a LHS. I have the blue one maybe I need the red one also.

 

I was a little surprised by the gray too but American Flyer did use that grey in a few engines and it's not a deal breaker for me.

Seems as if gray is what the folks at AF intended in the first place!

Hi Doc.  That brings me to a question; Where does the other end of the chain go for the eagle?

I have mine in the same place you do. On mine there was a hole in the back platform so I ordered a second Eagle and stand, I now call it a double Eagle. I think it looks nice with a Eagle on both ends.   Noticed the red engine does not have a hole in the rear platform.

Wait, seriously?  They put it in "Gilbert" boxes?!

I noticed that too and thought that was odd. Oh well; Still a cool looking box.

I clipped the eagle chain to the railing by the upper flag.

 

With the grey bottom wonder if the cars come with grey trucks instead of the shiny chrome ones that are on the two-tone blue set.

 

I like the fact MTH made the train like the catalogue cover. They have tough choices. Would the Brute be better as made or with the marker lights like the 381. Same here chrome trucks and Black frame or as original catalogue.
