I forgot who produced it but I need a small bag of it for a hopper car project. Thanks.

Dennis Brennan sells real coal. Chris, He's at York with Millhouse River Turntables. He shares a table with Al Z. . He offers coal in 5 different grades.
Thanks Dave. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make York this time around. I’m going to have to buy something online.
www.brennansmodelrr.com. You can purchase it on line. I purchased a bag of the #2 last York to use around my coaling tower. Have more than I need at the moment. If that will work for you and you are just doing one hopper. Hit my e mail and I can send you a bag.

www.conwaycoal.com this guy uses real coal from his coal company for o/s gauge .techman
Doesnt Peabody produce real coal loads? They're fr real trains tho
Try TrainLoads.com (from StCharles models works ) In my opinion, they make the best LOOKING coal loads on the market. Every one of my 2-bay hopper cars (65+ C&O hoppers and about 30 Western Maryland hoppers) have those coal loads in them.
St. Louis makes loads for Lionel 0-27 hoppers, two and 4 bay. Great looking, gives the car, from a distance, a "scale" look.
This is the project. I put a false bottom on this standard gauge hopper to make it look like it has a full load. Obviously not a scale application but I think a real coal load will look better.

I bought these from a guy on ebay who makes these from real anthracite coal. I bought two and will order more.

I lost my proverbial A** buying coal stocks in the NYSE. Turns out the fellows in Washington hate "dirty" energy.
But I like the name of Arch Coal or Peabody Energy. Most Class I roads today use nondescript and well worn hoppers to ferry coal out of Western mines. Oneday the business will evaporate.. the next generation will ask.. "Daddy what is COAL" ?
Lionel made cool and colorful coal cars .. I like the smaller "ore" cars better and we still see these on Class I roads chalk full of taconite here in the Upper-MidWest.
You can do what I do. Buy a 25 lb bag of anthracite and smash it with a hammer.
