I saw this metal O gauge road bed for tubular track and I wondering who made it and has anyone used it? What were the results? Good? Bad? Is it worth considering?
Something I've never seen before. I gather that it is intended to improve the appearance of the track with additional fake ties. Seems like it would be inconvenient to use for anything but a plain oval with standard uncut pieces of track. Most folks prefer a roadbed with some sound insulating qualities.
I don't have any personal experience with that road bed but from owning plastic road bed that does to some extent amplify the track noise I would think metal would be worse! I have my standard gauge track screwed down to homasote which is pretty quiet for metal wheels on metal track. If I were looking for road bed I would look into rubber road bed to keep the noise levels down. Tinplate makes enough of it's own clunky music! Which is not a bad thing!
I would think the hollow metal space would amplify the sound. Maybe fill the space with something ?? But it will look like metal, probably. Depends on cost, too ??
