It kind of bugs me that there's a lot more 8 or 16mm film footage of 614 on the New River Train than video. Although film often-times yields better picture quality, the framerate is quite low, making it look choppy. I have encountered a few instances of 614 shot in VHS in the '80s, but it's not common. If anyone has a tape with footage of the Chessie Safety Express on it, please let me know!

I'd say the Hopewell tapes that Rich Melvin did are your best bet.  JMJ did a tape of 614 in Florida.  Not Chessie Steam Special, but a company called Sargo did a tape during the ACE3000 tests in WV in 1985 as well.  Outside of that, it's slim pickings for vhs options of 614 in the 80s.

A lot of that choppiness of movie film depends on the rate at which its transferred.  Some transfers have much smoother motion than others, although the rate at which it was shot (much slower than most video) does have some effect.

I'm pretty sure that Mark I Video did expensive coverage of 614 handling excursions on New Jersey Transit, from Hoboken to Port Jervis & return, but I don't remember the year. The Mark I Video is all video tape, i.e. NOT movie film.

I actually have a Hopewell video. 614 on the C&O. It's a good program although it could've used some more runbys, especially on Huntington to Hinton, but that tape does have footage of 614 crossing the bridge at Hawks Nest which is pretty cool. There's also a company called Railhead Video Productions that has some runby footage of 614 in 1981 in a DVD called "Steam Train". Hopefully more VHS footage of the locomotive during that time period shows up.

Greg Scholl's "614 Encore" and "614 Coal Trains" are great DVDs if you want to see the Greenbrier in her prime. I haven't seen his "614 Revival" yet but if it's anything like the others it'll be great too.

There's also this 10-minute long YouTube video of the engine on the Safety Express with sound:

And this half-hour long YouTube video of the engine testing for the ACE 3000 with sound:

Don’t you guys ever check the OGR web store?

”Ace of Black Diamonds” from 1985.

The whole video is on the New River route.

I'm aware of this one Rich. It's definitely a very interesting show, although I'm more looking for her passenger excursions. You did some great coverage of 614 on "614 on the C&O" though! Some great runbys and even the engine crossing the Hawks Nest bridge!
