I tried Lionel and MTH but no luck. Any other forum sponsors? Thanks.

Chris. Did you ever try the patio torch wicks? I am sure there were posts how the torch wick is pulled apart to use in your engine.
Try MTH again, I find it in stock no sweat, AA0000001

I’ve heard of using that but I’ve always kind of got the original parts from MTH but I didn’t make York this year.

Thanks John. It was probably right in front of me! 🙄
I used a "trick", I search for "braid" as I know that's how they describe it. "wick" doesn't turn up this stuff, just a bunch of other things.
That’s why! 🤦🏻♂️ I’ll try again.
And Lionel...
Ordered!👍. Thanks for all the help guys!

For anyone interested, I have used this oil lamp wick. It works fine. It's probably the same stuff.
Just last night I had to replace the wick (braid) in a customer's engine. I had some in stock that I had bought at the Springfield show a number of years ago from Port Lines Hobby Supply, P/N 14208. In many years previous I had used the pink fiberglass insulation from the paper covered insulating bats. While I'm sure all the naysayers will chime in, all I'll say is that it worked back then with no problems. Glad GRJ came through again with the accurate info. He's invaluable to this Forum.
I also use the pink insulation material. Works great

In my experience pink insulation is too fine. It chars and hardens faster than actual wicking, and will burn right onto the resistor.
It's a pain to get it off. I'd steer clear of pink insulation in modern smoke units.

That's what you get for not showing up at York.
The last time I ran out I bought Tiki torch wick at Lowe's It has a braided outer sheath and straight fibers of the same material inside. After you shread it a bit works as well as anything I have tried. They had a couple of different diameters I knew I was going to cut and shred it so bought the thickest. j
Awhile back, I found some on ebay. Search for "Round Fiberglass Wick Kerosene". Various sizes are available, but you'll need to unbraid it regardless of size. 5 to 8 foot lengths are available for around $6-9 including shipping.
I bought some rope wick from Jeff at The Train Tender for my old 2026. You cut the rope in half and that becomes the correct amount. Pull the rope apart so it is fluffy and stuff it in the smoke bowl. Works great.
John
I have used the fiberglass insulation in the past, but was able to obtain the plain colored insulation, not the pink version. It does work in the smoking cabooses and engines.
Funny and true story. Vinny always gets dressed as Santa Claus for our Christmas show. I had asked him to leave me some batting for one of my engines. I found it in the office and put it in. Engine smoked like crazy. When I saw him I thanked him for leaving me the batting. He told me he forgot to but somebody stole his Santa Claus eyebrows from the office. Ho ho ho
There was a brand I used on Amazon, I looked around to see if they still sell it but they don't at the moment but it was the same material MTH uses. If I find the link tonight, I'll share it
I’ve used this in my MTH engines with great success. Cheap and works fabulous.

Yes this was the one.
