I have seen a former member of SD3R make a Ho Scale model of the Albuquerque Union Station with his Laser cutter. Body was made with wood but the guy decorated it with the stuco to make it look real. I have seen someone in my live steam group use a 3D printer to make a Headlight, a wheel, and a Signal head. Does anybody use a 3D printer or a Laser cutter? Oh by the way his Laser cutter sketched on wood Railroad logos.

try going to Sharways.com type in model railroading
I've had a laser cutting machine for almost 15 years now. I have made commercial items and sold them and made MANY projects for my own use. 2D artwork is very similar to graphic artwork which I had been doing for years....so designing 2D items came easy to me.
I tried learning 3D artwork.....found it took more time than I wanted to spend....and decided to wait a while and see what happens in the 3D field before I jump in.
This is a HO scale diner I made a limited number of. Laser cut.

I have used my 3D printer to make some replacement parts and bodies for O and N scale cars. I haven't tried making buildings yet though. That's a good idea.
For those who are visiting San Diego in the near future, these Buildings were made with a 3D printer for the 100 years of Balboa Columbus Exploration thingy, for their G Scale trolley car layout and these Buildings are around Balboa Park where the San Diego Model Railroad Museum is.

I have use a 3D Printer, when I was working, now retired but still have access to a
3D Printer. The most important part of this process is the Drawing,
That is going to make the part or structure. (AutoCAD by Autodesk)
