We know the- Armored set is on the way finally for those of us that ordered. I have read some did not order one because it only came conventional. It's obviously not a steamer, would probably predate any practical diesel electric, so I'm wondering what type of sound would be appropriate?? Straight diesel, gas powered or ????? What other sounds would you expect. Just wondering.

Maybe some sounds of cannon fire?

I also have one ordered. I have two levels (three if you count my wife's HO level). DCS on the upper level and conventional on the bottom one. Lately I have mostly been running the conventional layout. Personally I think that I have the best of both worlds and plan on keeping both.

Don't see the need for command control on this set.

Does anyone know if the original set even had reverse? How about the new one?

I have one ordered even though I prefer that it would have been PS3 since most all my tinplate is ProtoSounds equipped and operates with DCS.

If it had sounds though, I guess I would have expected it to have some sort of "heavy truck" sounds, as if it was fitted with the type of motor that might have been used in the world's earliest tanks and such.  Not exactly sure, but some sort of "clunky" engine sound might have been appropriate, along with crew chatter relating to military-type banter.  No need for a horn or bell sound, I suppose.  Might have included a loud "bang" (heavy gun firing) that would sound randomly when the unit was parked.

Still, I can well understand why coming up with appropriate sounds would have been a bit of a problem for the folks at MTH.  I'll be satisfied with the conventional unit in this case.  I'm looking forward to receiving my set in a couple of weeks, or whenever it reaches my dealer's stock room.

Yes, that is of course true, and I operate both conventional and DCS--not to mention TMCC--on both of my layouts, but some of us probably have been somewhat "spoiled" by the many neat features in DCS and really prefer those models when they are available.  That's not as often the case in the tinplate world, I suppose, because there are a significant number of conventional-only operators in this segment, but if a DCS/PS2 or PS3 option had been offered, I suspect a good number of us would have taken it.

Still, it is what it is, and I am certain it will be a delightful little set that will see plenty of running time.
