Assigning and setting I.D. for Legacy/Base 3

I want to ask a question about setting an ID for the first time for a new Legacy loco-do all of the other locos need to be off the tracks during the setting process (even though they are all switched to "run"), to set an ID for a new loco in program mode? That is what I have been doing, but maybe I do not need to?  Thanks/Alex

No, you can have as many locos as you want all powered with Lionel TMCC Legacy.

The fundamental difference AKA 101 class of trains- Lionel VS MTH

Lionels have a program switch- Only that engine is enabled to change it's ID- all other engines receive the signal but ignore it because they are in run.

MTH (PS2 PS3) has no program switch- they listen all the time for the address change commands- hence you need only one engine on the track so that more than one cannot respond.
