Atlas "0" Turntable Availability

Are you able to modify your benchwork and use the one you have?  I don't know which one you have, however lots of people have replaced Atlas tables with Millhouse or Ross because the Atlas tables have many shortcomings.

I have the Ross.  There is only one place on the layout to place it.  Directly underneath is a support cross member plus about 50 wires.  Those wires would have to be cut, moved and reconnected.  As it is, the unit will cover a corner of an access hatch.  Doing that is just not in my Karma at this point in my life.  Perhaps one of those companies that advertise for hire layout construction could figure something out.

Call Tom Thorpe!!!!! He is a master bench work and wiring guy.  If he is available you will have the best of the best working on your layout. He is a member of this forum.

Probably a call to Atlas would be the best way to find out. This came up recently in another thread and I checked the Atlas website. As I recall they also said available for pre-order, but when I hit the order button nothing happened and I was unable to pre-order one. 

I checked there also.  Notice the date in fine print?  Too many web sites are not kept up-to-date.  Internethobbies.com showed one could be ordered, so I did.  Finalized the order including payment with PayPal.  First response was order confirmation showing sale price that was less than what was advertised.  Second was confirmation showing correct price.  Third was notice that the item was out of production and order cancelled.  No info yet on PayPal refund.  So much for updated web site.  Will not consider them for business again.

I bought an Atlas Turntable years ago.  New in box and never opened.  I've since bought a 34" Millhouse TT.

 If you want the Atlas it's yours for$150.

I was looking into getting an atlas table a few months back. Went to my lhs, he is an atlas dealer, he made a call and was told that they lost the tooling. Also, have no plans to manufacture it again.

Too bad, it was priced right and did the job.  All it required was an upgrade to a more robust drive system and it would easily have become a staple accessory.   I'm wondering what "lost" is?  Simply disappeared, or damaged, worn out beyond repair?  The bad thing about having tooling designed & made in China is it can never be removed from the country..    You can't take it and use it to produce elsewhere.      Simply put,  you leave with nothing.... Zero...

Atlas should remove it from their price list. It's still listed online and in print when they send out a catalog. This thread raises a good point for me. That is rout my wiring around the area where a turntable may go. I was going to go with the Atlas O. Without it, I'll still have the high cost and bench rebuild, but I can avoid rewiring.

My problem is that the wiring is already under there where the tt must be recessed.  Have not counted how many wires there are, but way more than I want to attempt to reroute.

I have a space on my layout for an Atlas turntable, but I haven't been able to find one either. I noticed that a used one just sold on eBay for $331.

Dan, I'm sorry that I did not get the opportunity to purchase from you. If there are others with ideas on best way to hunt down a atlas turntable, I would appreciate any feedback. I'm a newbie to the hobby and have found out myself how difficult it is to find. I have found these forums so valuable and thank you all for the discussions greatly increasing my knowledge base. Is there any chance you could build the area up where the Ross TT will be mounted.

The Ross extends 10" below the table top.  When I designed the layout I assumed I was going to use the Atlas TT.  Did not know at the time that the platter was warped causing engines to derail due to misaligned track at the thresholds.  The primary problem is I have a 1X4 support board that crosses the area where I need to place the TT.  I am not sure just how big a pain it would be to somehow reroute a section of the board.  The support boards are screwed down from the top.  The wiring is less of a problem.  A seller on eBay that makes TTs has one for sale that extends 4 3\4" beneath the table.  That would be quite doable were I to find a reasonable solution to the support board presence.

Looks like you already bought the Atlas one, but I do have an unopened Atlas turntable and 3 roundhouse stalls that I'm considering selling.  24" is just too small for my ever larger steam fleet.
