Folks,

I have an Atlas 0 turntable that has worked fine for a a number of years.  Recently it started having a problem rotating but only in one direction.  In one direction it runs fines, makes the stops accurately and moves along thru the rest of the slips.  However when I try to reverse direction it will move about an inch or less And then stop.  The motor sounds like it is binding.

- I removed the top side of the turntable and found a few pieces of ballast which I removed.

- I removed the housing for the gears and took the motor off.  The motor runs fine in both directions with no load.

- The gears all looked fine so I lubed the gears and reinstalled the gears, gear cover and motor and put the top back on but it still fails to move in the reverse direction.

- I took the top off and tried turning it in both directions. It did not move in reverse.

- I loosened the screws holding the gear cover and motor just a bit  and tried it.  It ran fine.  I put the top back on and it still would not reverse.

There are no tracks interfering with movement.  The turntable has not been moved or reattched.  So I am at a loss to figure out why it will only move an inch in reverse before it binds up But will work fine in the forward direction.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ed

I don't know if this is the right way to solve the problem but it works for now.

I loosened the 4 screws for on the gear cover and motor mount.  I also loosened the large screw that holds the top unit to the base.  I loosened them just a tad.

The turntable works (at least for now).  But I am going to go back and try your solution as it seems like the better way to solve the problem.

I will let you know if I find a good solution.  I know that loosening screws is not a good solution.

Thanks,

Ed

That problem is usually caused by not having the table platform completely level.

If you have it screwed down to a table top it could be racked which then causes its much to weak drive system to bind.  Try adjusting those screws to rebalance it and then replace the flimsy rubberband that drives the table.

BTW, I had that problem myself. The table is a problematic PITA because the drive system is flimsy & weak . I added traction to its flimsy belt by rubbing a gel called "Magic Lube" on the rubberband. Its a sticky lube in a tube with teflon for use on swimming pool O rings. It ended the slipping rubberband problem.

Does anyone know the replacement part number for the belt (o ring)?  I would like to purchase.  I would think an o-ring the same size and thickness would work.  Please advise.  Thanks.

Also, I had similar problems with mine (above).  I had an extra belt, replaced it, and it took care of the problem.  I just want to have lots of spare belts.
