Am I missing something but why are Atlas 40' containers going for over $50.00 each plus shipping on Ebay?   I just watched a individual cars all go for above retail with most going in the $30-$46 rang and Kline and Evergreen cars going for over $50.  It seems like we could get some American made containers with good paint jobs and no working doors for those prices. I'd love to see a blue P&O with the flag.  Today a stack went thru my farm and it was filled with Kline and Maesrk with the big lettering on the sides.

Like said, why have these with operating doors. How many modelers if any will have these containers with the doors open. If anything, these will be stacked on cars. Why have us spend all that extra money for something almost all won't use. Also, looks like a master line series, why. Atlas couldn't do a better than fair job in the trainline series and sell them for about $25 - 30. It is just a box shape.

I think it is just the fact that Atlas has their new cars coming and there has been a run on buying up old containers.   Atlas containers in my opinion are head and shoulders above other manufacturers.  The same thing happened with their gunderson double stack cars.  I got a five car set for about $150 on eBay a while ago.   Now some go for over $300 again.  I assume atlas will announce a new run of the 40 foot containers soon, maybe in the spring 2016 catalog.  Then you will see these prices go way down again.  A year or so ago you could get these same containers for less then $20.   I think it's just the ebb and flow of the the market.  I still say there are more O-scalers than there used to be.

Thanks!   Just my two cents.

True that the Atlas-O containers are nice.  But even at former "regular" prices, they're the absolute worst price/performers.  At the inflated prices you're seeing on eBay now, it's just insanity and folks who don't know better.  Patience is always a virtue.

Wouldn't at all be surprised to see another run of both 40-footers AND more 53-footers once the Maxi IV's are released in 2016.

I am not an advocate for high prices, but actual price of $20-$24 per o-scale container I don't think is unreasonable.   Look at what top end containers in HO and N go for.   I don't even think the other manufacturers of containers in O are scale, I know the Lionel ones I have aren't.  Not a huge deal I guess but also not worth as much as Atlas ones.   Just my two cents!

Don,

Agreed for what they are.. The normal price range is comparable to other scales.
