I've got 3 of these that are open with top off. 2 questions:
1) Where does inside small spring connect?
2) How do you connect the 6099 to the switch on a layout; the little 90 degree arm on the switch is sitting there and I can't figure how to slip the 6099 onto the 'arm'.

Have you figured out how to connect to the switch? There's a little plastic tab on the switch machine link that you have to press into the small hole in the switch arm. Once there the connection is pretty good. No problems on my layout. I have 3 of these on my layout and all work great.
