I don't know about the rest of you but I have had this on reserve since 2010 and NADA. Amazing that they can give dates for other engines but the GE, no. RS 3 and U23 B this year?. 8-40 still on back burner. I think it may be time to look toward MTH. Right now it is a pig in a poke. i have been waiting for this engine as it is/was used in the Oregon Blues which I am modeling.

Yeah, the latest MTH units with PS3 are really nice. Depending on the roadname you're wanting, both the Atlas and MTH models could have some slight inaccuracies.
Page 85 of the just released 2014 Atlas catalog lists shipping as 4th Qtr 2014 for the 8-40CW. Maybe it's back to the front burner? I think the catalog has only been out a week or two.
You have been watching and know much more about it than I, but was thinking about getting one of these myself. I know Atlas has had some problems like all the other train manufacturers, but sounds like they may be getting back on track now?
Actually, this is one of the best sounding engines coming out of MTH right now. They have this one dialed in nicely in my opinion. There are still some out there in 2-rail too- I know Norm had several on his inventory list. I would definitely check these out if you want a very cool engine.
Atlas website shows open reservations thru Mar17 for GE8-40CW, its been so long they are looking to update their reservation base.
There were fully painted production samples shown in 2012 by Atlas O at train shows, but they did not have the new sound system ready.
Place a new order for the C40-8W diesel-electric locomotives with the hobby shop or train store where you placed your original order back in 2010.

Hi
I have also been waiting forever for these. I am probably the only one left but I am still holding out hope for a standard cab version from Atlas after the release these!
Don
Don, Very likely they could do a standard cab version once they release the wide cab model. They already have them in HO and N scales. Would like to see the CN repaints in both standard cab and wide cab.
I would think they would - seems logical since they already made them in other scales and they do both styles in the "Dash B's." But you never know... I would like to see the standard cabs in CSX NY2 and especially the grey stealth scheme.
At least we can hope! I would love to see them out this year.
Don
PS Mike - maybe I will see you in Chicago in a couple of weeks!
