Here's a real nice blog about some new products coming from manufacturers at the York show.  For us modern folks, those Lionel 86' auto parts boxcars look like a winner!  Amazingly, they are coming equipped with Kadee coupler mounting pads.

Could Lionel be softening their stance on 2-Rail modelers or is this just to appease the 3-Rail Scale crowd?  Who knows... but at least the job of converting them to 2R will be that much easier.  When can I can reserve mine?

I think Lionel is reacting to 3RS demands, plus MTH's and Atlas' standard of scale-coupler capabilities on their rolling stock. This makes things easier for 2-rail conversion.

I already reserved three of the Lionel 86-foot Excess Height box cars. Lionel is saying the first group will ship later this year; a second group of 8-door cars is in the works, so I'm pretty sure they'll get some more money from me.

The WBB 44-tonner is interesting and one might end up on my roster, even if MTH does one later.

Dave F said this in his blog.

UPDATE: MTH has announced secretly at York that they are looking at their 2015 Volume 1 catalog to announce their 44-Tonner with PS3.  Will it be 2R and 3R? No one has said yet...but this is more promising than the WBB version.  This will have command and sound in an all-in-one package.

That was no "secret" announcement.  Andy Edelman was at the DCS dinner in front of close to 100 people when he said that MTH would have the 44 tonner in their 2015 Volume 1 catalog when it comes out this October.

It will be interesting to see which model makes it out first and then compare the level of detail when both are available.  Obviously many will enjoy the factory sound, DCC and DCS that come with Proto 3.
