Mark, (Joe Foehrkolb- Baldwin Forge and Machine) can 2R this locomotive for you as he's 2R'd many 3R locos.

There's a lot more to it than just dropping in axles from NWSL due to the vertical motors and gearboxes. You have to retain the gearboxes/axles and press on new wheels, plus insulate the wheels from the axles. I believe the axle ends had to be machined to accept the NWSL wheels too. Doable yes, but not simple without the proper equipment.

I have an ABA set of Lionel scale F units that Joe converted to 2R for me that I'm going to sell (less shells) if anyone is interested. Also, have all the TMCC garbage that was taken out. I have other plans for these shells.

I looked at the Atlas parts link I have and didn't see the F3 listed, but they do have the 2-rail truck part number listed here:

http://www.atlaso.com/partspdf...P-7_2rail_Trucks.pdf

Maybe someone who knows can confirm if they're the same part.  If you go backwards from the link I provided you can probably find other parts you may need.

Their revised site has yet another link to parts, but it's not the same link as the one I show.

Not 2-rail but when I first got my unpowered Atlas GP9 I found out I could put a pair of MTH trucks/motors/motor mounts under the chassis and it ran great, even installed PS2.  Since then I was able to order the "Power Transfer Gear Assembly" and power the Atlas trucks using the MTH motors and mounts, without any mods.  I switched back to the Atlas trucks because they have better detail on the sideframes than the Railking trucks I used.

It won't hurt to call Atlas and ask if they have the parts for sale, it'll be either yeah or nay

Below is a link to a switcher that Joe converted. It shows the truck/gearboxes well and you can see the Micarta insulating strips between the axle and wheels. Joe also attaches the pilot to the shell as part of his F conversion and added Kadees to mine. But, I want to get away from the vertical drives. It's a nice installation and conversion when Joe is done I just want slower speeds and more control than the vertical drives allow me.

If he doesn't want to tell me how many you want.  I have over a dozen, I think, some TMCC and some Legacy.

Hello rdunniii, How much do you want for the Legacy electronics? I want to do a pair of K line e8 AA units. I want full sound and control for each unit. What engine did they come out of and what all is included? (control only, or control, sound speaker, lights, electocouplers??  Also, I am brand new to this forum, how do I get in contact with you directly? Thanks! Rick

Hi Rick,

I just got back online this morning and saw your post. If rdunniii has the parts you need that might be the best way to go. Mine came back in a bag from Joe and I haven't look at them since. Not exactly sure what is in it. I'll be happy to pull it out and check if you can't find what you need.

I am pretty sure that Atlas 3R F units came with fixed pilots in the box.
