Anyone know when Atlas will supply their "new and improved" switches. I just had another one go bad. I am hoping the new ones will be made better. (The bar that slides from side to side to move the rail has broken.) This is something I have seen several times before, and hopefully Atlas will address this with their new and better switches as well as the conductivity issues, etc.

Have you contacted Atlas? Seems like they would be the only ones able to answer your question.
The part you have that is broken sounds like the throw bar. These are available from Atlas as a parts purchase. You have to call and talk to one of the engineers to get the proper part. They are not listed in their online parts list. They were very helpful when I called, not in a hurry, looked up all the parts I wanted, checked to see if they were in stock (they were) and sent them out to me. They were not at all expensive either, very reasonably priced. I was very happy with the call and ordering process, couldn't have been better.
I had some used switches that had the same problem and the new throw bars fixed them right up. I also got the throw bar linkages that connect to the switch machines and some other parts. Atlas has most of the switch parts that can be replaced in stock. I got extras, but have not had a problem since fixing the bad ones.
The new switches have been expected for some time, but I haven't seen any. I hope they will be available again soon, I want to add some more.
Thanks rtr12. I did not realize that Atlas stocks the parts for the switches.....and yes I think the part would be called a throw bar. I will contact Atlas and see if this part is replaceable and if they have that. Thanks again!
You're welcome. They are very easy to replace and much cheaper than a new switch, seems like they were less than $1 ea.
I would also recommend getting some linkages that connect the throw bar to the switch machine and some switch machine springs as well. That is what I replaced on some of the used switches I had and they worked just like new afterward. Get extras of each part.
Good luck with your repairs.
