I have an Atlas Trainman Dash 8-40CW with TMCC. When I bought it (new) it wouldn't operate in command control. Conventionally it runs perfectly. When I try running it with Legacy, nothing happens. The lights come on and the sounds are off as they should be, but it is unresponsive to the remote. Nothing as ID 1, and I can't program a new one in it.

I sent it to Atlas to be fixed, but Bill said it worked fine when it got there and sent it back. Same issue when I tried running it again. I have other Atlas engines that operate perfectly, so I can't for the life of me figure out the problem. Any suggestions?

I could be wrong, but I believe all LEGACY equipped engines will respond to a "99" address, but not TMCC equipped-they were all just delivered with a "1" as the initial TMCC ID.

It makes no sense why it operates as advertised in Bill's shop, but not on your layout. Do you have any friends nearby with TMCC/Legacy layouts (or a local hobby shop) you could try this particular engine on to see if it runs in command on their layout?

Hold the trucks and shake it. If you hear something rattling, chances are the antenna fell off the shell. Its only held on with a dab of some junky glue. If it falls off, it lands on the boards and can short something out. I had to replace the R4LC in mine because the antenna dropped off the shell and knocked it out. I reattached the antenna with outdoor 2 sided foam tape.

It would run, but not in command. Just a thought from experience.

Its not too hard to open it up. Wiggling the R4LC out with all the wiring in the way was doable but a little touchy.
