They look good from that distance. Very striking, not including that they are the lower level Trainman engines besides. Are the grilles molded or real screen?

I looked them up and they are priced nice too. I would get the DC only version and put DCS into them on my RR. I just don't have the extra cash right now.

Grilles are all molded but finely done, my Mline SD 40 & GP 60 have all molded grilles also, for the basic units with typical dealer discounts these are an absolute bargain although from there initial announcement I would have preferred the extra detail of a Masterline model, on the plus side I want DC 2 rail only which was still available for the GP 60s. SD 40s Gold only. JMO

I ordered both CSX 2-Rail Gold Dash 8's from Mr Muffin's Trains but received an email Tuesday that only the 1st cab # was available. Atlas' website shows the 2nd cab # as a Pre Order.

I checked with Merlyn Lauber and Beth Marshall and they don't have the 2nd cab # either. Apparently Atlas is sold out of the 2nd cab # (7834) in 2-rail DCC. As luck would have it, Ready To Roll Trains had a 2-Rail Gold 7834 so I bought it.

Hey guys. Here is one of mine....Santa Fe #816. The 2nd road number is still in the box.

A quick review.

Yes....it is a Trainman "O Scale Fun for Everyone".

That being said it is a very nice model with enough detail to keep me happy. Plus my "Muffin price" was tough to beat.  There are some minor miscues here and there due to the lacking of some add-on details. Overall, the paint job looks real good and certainly captures the prototype in classic Santa Fe colors.

I had a few problems right out of the box. The front plow was busted off and laying in the box along with the air hose. Some of the hand painted grabs and railings had a few nicks and bruises that could be touched up if needed. The front plow is only attached to the truck with very (very, very) small plastic nubbies that look to be less than 1mm in diameter. No wonder they break off. I sanded down the back of the plow and also the truck to remove the silver paint. Then I glued it on. It is not going anywhere now. Yes.....it is a shame that brand new engines have problems.  I was able to re-attach the air hose without a problem. This time it was a simple 5 minute fix and I am happy with my results.

Enjoy the pics and have a good weekend.

Donald
