Hope this is the right forum.  Several years ago, I purchased Atlas track in preparation for building my layout. Now I read that it does not hold up well. Specifically rails on switches are likely to break.   I would be interested in the experience of those of you using Atlas. I like the look and don't want to get rid of all. If breakage is a problem has anyone tried reinforcing the rails with cement such as epoxy? Should I sell the switches and replace with Gargraves or Ross ( won't match )?

Thanks for your input

Hi Art,

I have hundreds of feet of Atlas track and have never had this problem. It is permanently installed. I have seen problems occur where the track is repeatedly set up and taken apart. The switches gave some people problems while others have not had any. There are many threads on fixing switch problems that arise. I use Ross Switches and like them.  However, many like the Atlas switches. I would stay with the track you have and others will chime in with their experiences with the switches.

Good Luck,

Bob

Should any rails break off of ANY atlas O track, the tracks can EASILY be fixed by SPIKING down the rails and using crazy glue to the skies to keep the spikes firm into the ties. See this thread on how to repair atlas O track....

IT's easy, simple and the Only O guage track system that can be fixed prototypically!

You might try searching older threads on this issue. I know there was one recently that went into depth on this very issue. Some guys use Ross, which is cool and made in America, some guys choose to mod the Atlas switches, which is cool because then it all looks uniform. Either way you choose to go, there are some very knowledgeable folks and helpful tips on the past threads, the hard part is finding them sometimes.

Art,

I have close to 1000 feet of Atlas track, 45 Atlas turnouts, and 12 Ross curved turnouts. No issues with the track, very few with the Atlas turnouts, but none that couldn’t be fixed easily. Several problems with the Ross curved turnouts, and some of these problems remain to this day. If I had to do it over, I would try to use all Atlas turnouts, but Ross does offer a better selection of curved turnouts.
