I took out of storage an almost new  MTH tinplate steam locomotive 260 E, item number 10-3016-1. Everything works well, however all the sounds are very low .I recall the sounds being very good prior to recent move. I have completed factory and feature reset, checked speaker connection in tender and cable connector to locomotives seems ok .All features and sounds work just very faint.ng sounds button does shut off sounds. The sound volume up / down does not effect anything. The  volume pot dial has been adjusted/ turned up and down many times, no effect.

Any ideas?

Hi you have a PS 2 3-volt board that uses a rechargeable battery if the resets works and the sound is low or especially distorted  could be a bad speaker or the audio AMP could be defective! if the speaker has a ground in the speaker winding grounds out it can blown the audio amp and even destroy the whole board! generally the audio chips will get damaged from car or train derailments ! I'm an MTh ASC tech so you may mail the whole engine or just mail me the PS 2 3-volt board I don't know where you're located I'm in NJ ! if you're sure the battery is full charged, then there is one other option you can do a maintenance reset in the remote, sometimes that will clear the low volume!

Well , you guys are always right. I did charge the battery via plug in bottom , however seems this battery is dead.I put in a BCR and after a few seconds the sounds came back at full.

I am charging a fresh battery overnight and will swap out the BCR.

Thanks

Why not just leave the BCR in it and never worry about it again?
