March 21, 2025 ... Another Dining Car arrived and I went to work painting the table bases, tabletops and the Seats. The traditional 21" Lionel 2527510 Nickel Plate Road Dining Car does not have backs on the seats, so I pre-painted 1/4" .60 strips of Plastruct and then cut them to length with a home-made jig and Excell #1 knife.
Gluing the seats backs to the molded floor cube/bases takes care to make sure the chair back is straight and touching the floor mold completely. When the backs are dry, I fill in the gaps between the backs and the chair cube with more Rose Tan acrylic paint. The paint and the Krazy Glue help to secure the chair backs in place.
I still need to add two more coats of white paint to the table tops and touchup any stray paint flaws. When that is completed, I will add Preiser 65602 Seated People to the Dining Car.
