Anyone out there doing this? I'm talking about a very thin, not so plush carpet. Definitely not that plastic stuff you see at Home Depot. Comments?

So long as the carpet fibers arent long enough to get up into the gears, I dont see why you couldnt do it, but why would you want to do that? If you're talking floor layout, I'm the snap locks may or may not actually be tight enough to hold it all together over time without something working a bit loose. The stuff strikes me as intended to be screwed down.
I'm talking permanent table top layout. Something about the scenery on my current "new" layout bugs me and I always found the green carpet type layouts easy to change, maintain, clean, etc far more than a scenic layout.
Why not use a green felt material or similar?
That is my plan. I used a felt/fine carpet others I know have used. I'll try to stop by Home Depot tonight to see if they have it
Matt Just another suggestion.
If you have a Hancock's Fabric store around I have seen some interesting felt in colors that may be interesting for ground cover. Multiple greens and browns mixed very well together that could make a interesting ground cover.
