I had a troop sleeper back when Weaver was producing them.  I was not very impressed with the trucks. Due to the need to make them both 2 rail and 3 rail capable they made them too wide, and just made the scale wheel axles longer. I wanted to create a Bangor & Aroostook troop sleeper C-90 Caboose conversion. The new vestibule end construction would involve cutting end doors along the side, but the extra wide trucks would interfere with the vestibule steps below and severely limit the radius it would negotiate. I also wasn’t a fan of the couplers. There were also issues with the floors warping.

The big question is what has atlas done to either improve or replace the issues? I heard through the grape vine that the floors on the new models are diecast and no longer have an issue, is that true? Did they put their own trucks and couplers on there? Inquiring minds want to know LOL. I may restart this project if the answer is good!22562597-1EA3-448D-A1FF-28C3CBDB2D94C4DA4035-5F38-48D5-980C-3E159500D7A1

I’ve been out of the Hobby for a couple years now and I’m getting back into it. Hard choices during difficult times forced me to sell off most of my collection.  I wasn’t going to  try to replace it or continue modeling, but I decided that was a mistake. As You can see by the second photo, Prototype information and measurements will not be a problem since I happen to own the real C-90. Thank you for any replies.

I have a Weaver NH express baggage car and after several years it developed a warped underframe due to "zinc pest".  I called Atlas and they sold me a replacement underframe.  As I recall it was almost identical to the Weaver part.  As you posted Weaver's Allied Full Cushion trucks are grossly wide.  I altered my pair by installing a replacement bolster by Keil Line.  Scale City Designs now offers many of the Keil Line white metal castings.

If AtlasO redesigned the truck to feature narrower 2 rail bolsters you may not have a clearance issue.  I haven't seen an  AtlasO troop sleeper trucks so I can't comment if they've  redesigned the trucks .  It would be helpful if someone on the forum that has a 2 rail AtlasO troop sleeper would post a photo of the underside of the car showing the relationship of the truck side frames to the car body.  Lacking that you might try calling Bill Serratelli at Atlas  (908-687-9590) and ask if their 2 rail troop sleeper truck are narrower than the 3 rail version.    I've found him to be very helpful.
