Our Austin O Scalers club got together today and we did a little running at Austin Bill's fine O Scale layout and here is some action footage of an ATSF manifest setting out a few cars in the yard.
Two Atlas O 2-Rail ATSF GP60s lead their train up to the yard and make a few setouts before continuing on their way. DCC sound is provided by Protocraft Super Tsunami sound decoders replacing stock QSI sound decoders with locomotive motors wired in series for improved slow speed performance. Flange squeal and mechanical reefer sounds are courtesy of a Soundtraxx Sound Car decoder installed in the white 57' mechanical reefer located near the end of the train.
The jerkiness of the train at low speed at times is caused by the coupler draft gear springs on the Atlas cars harmonically oscillating even if the locos are running nice and smooth. I'll have to figure out a way to dampen the draft gear spring action on these cars or change the couplers out to Kadees.
Thanks again to Austin Bill for his great hospitality and now on with the show:
