There's no better way to capture natural light for sure!  (I know Maerklin has been doing the same for a number of years with some of their exclusive item brochures and catalogs.)

I did some work for Märklin around 2010 and 2011. It was a fun assignment. Yes they have been doing some nice covers. Scaletrains has really done some cool stuff lately.  Paul Michael Smith was always inspiring to me with his 1:18 cars. I studied film making and miniatures for the film industry and turned down a job at ILM in 2003. I stayed in Colorado and decided to act with my models I build. I have no desire to do it as a business or for hire as it becomes a job and no longer fun for me. It brings me joy when guys enjoy my stuff. Makes it all worthwhile. Glad you enjoy it.

The train of the stars streaks in front of the Kodachrome in the fall of 1942 through western Kansas with 11L E3 a very proper leader on this glamorous train in its youth recreated in O scale.

Erik, beautiful really realistic pictures especially the santa fe one I have that model myself one of the best from Key and of course all your pictures are beautiful I enjoy it almost every day😃

BeautifUl work, Erik, here and on your website. Are you using Photoshop? How are you compositing your steam effects? The masks are very clean. I also like the "Kodachromes". Paul Simon would enjoy them! You really captured the color and soft feel of a Kodachrome and I am curious how you did it, although I know you may have your trade secrets.

Hey Will, yes I do use a layering program; not photoshop as it’s too loose for me I need more digital illustration software. I do use Lightroom in the final pass after I finish my work treated just the same as my oil paintings but using my models in photos I set up in desired light.

And yes it’s all fake, they are miniatures not real trains. In this capture this CB&Q scratch built coaling tower stands proudly with my PFM L77 DRGW 2-6-6-0. Trackwork is all hand laid. I weather and paint everything. I really enjoy your work went to your website nice stuff sir.
