Ah, yes . . . memories -- good memories.

 

I rode the Tulsan several times to visit my aunt in Tulsa.  My last trip was in 1969, with rednose 330 or 331, which still had its original Pyle Gyralite and Leslie A-200 single note "Blaster" air horns intact at that date.  79 MPH over lightly-ballasted 1924 90 lb. rail with mostly semaphore ABS and several crossings with upper-quadrant wig-wags.  It was not as smooth as the Santa Fe transcon, but it was smoother than the Rock Island main line.  The train crew worked out of Kansas City, and the engine crews worked Kansas City to Chanute and Chanute to Tulsa.
