The Weldon Railroad was an important Confederate supply line that Union forces successfully disabled by destroying sections of the track in August 1864. The battle resulted in 2,500 Union soldiers being captured and taken prisoner. There were 4,300 Union casualties and 2,250 Confederate casualties.
