I made a reversing trolley track with a pause at each end for my 027 layout.  It used a HO gauge trolley but can be done for O gauge as well.  The homemade timer is shown in the copied write up below from my layout topic https://ogrforum.com/...t-version-3-0?page=5  The below came from that topic.

The fun part of the trolley was figuring out how to stop and start the trolley at each end of the Main Street line and how to reverse the DC polarity on the track and the ends automatically like the bumpers reverse the Lionel O gauge Trolley.  First I cut the one HO track rail about 7 inches from each end to give a section that would be un-powered and stop the trolley at each end of track. These end track sections also must be powered with the correct polarity to restart and reverse the trolley.

A trolley timer/controller was made from a small 1 RPM gear motor similar to those that power a micro wave oven turntable, which are easy to find in street trash on trash day.  A cam disc was sawed out of ½ inch plywood with high humps and lower sections.  Two micro roller armed single pole double throw switches were mounted together to act as an double pole double throw switch and wired in an X to switch track DC polarity when activated.  This allows the trolley to start and run to the other end of track which is dead.  The timer allows the trolley to stay there for about 30 seconds.  Then the micro DPDT switch is activated by the timer cam and that end of the track is powered up with DC that has the polarity reversed and the trolley takes off for a 5 sec run to the other end track, stops and stays there 30 seconds until it is activated with the track with reversed DC polarity and off the trolley goes again.

This was a fun project to figure out, build and to watch operate.

Don't think I could build that.

I once posed an electrical question on this forum.  Someone came back with all these wiring diagrams with circuits, relay's, ect.  I had to respond back "if i knew how to do this, I wouldn't be in my basement playing with trains".  There are some seriously talented people on this forum...and then there's me!  I love to see what people can do and dream up.  Much appreciated and admired.  Amazing people on this forum.

I've tried the Dallee unit and it is sporadic  The Z Stuff DZ-1240 works much better and is easy to install   You can use insulated rails or Infrared sensors with it for point to point

I have used the Dallee unit and the  Z stuff unit at the club . Both have worked well. If memory serves me right the Dallee works best with a simple  E unit not with the newer sound systems. Hopefully someone else will chime in on this.

I used and use DZ -1220 trolley stop..   on it I an use any motorized unit with a mechanical e unit or a electronic e unit (you program fast or slow)   Also I can use any bumper  unit like a  60 Lionel trolley or a MTH bumper handcar,   you can make it have as many stops at   areas you like .. I use insulated track on the ends , I put a switch to shut off the  sounds  unless I'm running a trolley... daniel

Got to love the work that Choo Choo Charlie does. Electronic solutions are fine but there's something about all the ingenious mechanical solutions people used for hundreds of years. I think that's the appeal of steam--all those marvelous working "bits" on the outside.
