Back after a hiatus

The most I have ever stayed away was one week. And I was on vacation. I guess its in my blood!
Glad to see your back and running trains. Show us some pictures.

 There will be times when I am preoccupied with tinkering with something around the house (especially in the warmer months),or just plain worn out from work that I may not actually touch any of my model trains for a few months at a time.

 But I'm always on my favorite websites talking about them.

 

 

 

I was away from the forum and trains for almost two years.  I guess I was just burned out and needed to do something else.

This posting resonated with me because back in the 1990’s I had the great good fortune to bring together a very nice collection of pre war Hornby trains and for my other passion a very large collection of Meccano which led to some serious model making. After a time I began to half suspect the two hobbies were getting close to running me, rather than the other way around and in some sort of mid life crisis or spiritual awakening – dependant on your point of view I decided to sell both collections to a dealer and away they went with no assumptions these interests would resurface years later.

Years later however....  When I came to retire and for once had some spare cash in my pocket it seemed to me that it was right and proper to indulge myself again. How often has this sort of thing happened?

Yes I was away for about 4-5 years.The reason was during those years I was on dialasis. then in the past 2 years I lost my right leg.then 8 months later I went tru a kidney transplant,and 2 munths later I had a 3 way bypass. And now 1 year later they say I need a valve replacement done in a munth or 2.And I've had 3 legs since jan 2011. so thats the reason I have not done much with the trains,but I have been building some bench work and painting it.And I have some track up now.    Scot

I was away from the hobby for 20 plus years with all my stuff boxed up. I can't even say why but like you Hank, I'm glad to be back. I have many hobbies and at points in my life I just seem to move in and out of them. I play guitar and will sometimes play every day for a year or so and then there are months where I don't touch it. As my wife says, there are not enough hours in the day for all my hobbies to be attended to on a daily basis. 

Thanks for all the replies.  I really didn't indulge in any of my hobbies for that year or so, other than getting on the HAM radio once in a while  if I felt like it while going to work.  I can't put my finger on why...  but I am glad I am back to it.   I'll post some layout pics after I change a few things.  I was running the trains last night and saw some things I wanted to change on the layout, so I pulled up some track and accessories and started in.  I'll finish it during the week next week.  My layout is all tinplate, and all my trains are original tinplate.  My concept was to try to create a layout that gave the flavor and impression of one typical of the late 1930's.
