Ballast on Ready Grass

I have a small layout with a base of plywood covered with half inch foam. I installed Woodland Scenics Ready Grass over my foam. I'm thinking about ballasting my Gargrave tracks and wondering if I have to remove the grass where I want the ballast or can I just ballast over it . Hoping someone may have experience doing such.

These are vinyl grass mats so you can adhere ballast or other types of ground covers right over it without any issues.

Thanks, I thought so but wanted to be sure. I salvaged ballast from my old layout and thought I may as well use it.
