Does anyone know how to reverse DC polarity using a momentary single pole switch?  I have a Lionel Balloon ride that has failed electronics but a good DC motor.  The drive system in these was always problematic so I am trying to figure out a new way to get the 2 balloons to go up and down.   The DC motor works fine in raising and lowering the balloon and I can reverse directrion by switching polarity manually.    I have installed two  single pole momentary switches that the each  balloon touches at the end of its run.  I need to incorporate  a relay or some other device so that a tap of either of my two momentary switches will reverse DC polarity allowing the balloon to switch up/down direction.   Anyone have any suggestions?  Phil

Phil~

After seeing this accessary recently, I was determined to find one. While I searched I gave some thought into building one from scratch. I eventually realized the switching part would essentially be a "back and forth" unit.

I managed to find balloon ride recently and never had to build it, but this is what i had so far.

I believe the Dallee (item #561-4) Automatic Back-N-Forth unit could be used without switches and adjust the timing to reverse polarity. http://www.dallee.com/Basic_Package.htm

To use your switches, I think you could use (Item #609)

Your balloon sensing switches would be the "gap" in the diagram.

I hope that someone with more knowledge could verify that this will/would work as I think it would.

As a side note, After setting up and running a NOS balloon ride accessory for about 2 hours. One of my cherry switches stopped working and I needed to take the accessary apart and spray CRC cleaner into the switch to get it to work again.

Good luck
