Quick question for Barry or anyone that has both his books on WIFI. I seem to remember and I printed it out but can not find it, an addendum (?) that was added concerning hooking up a Legacy 990 system to the DCS system. Is that in the second version of the DCS WiFi book?

Curtis,
an addendum (?) that was added concerning hooking up a Legacy 990 system to the DCS system. Is that in the second version of the DCS WiFi book?
Yes, that was one of many (42 pages worth) additions to the 2nd edition. in fact, the addendum itself was updated, as well, when it was added tot the 2nd edition.
Everything that you need to know about DCS WiFi is all in MTH’s “The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition!" |
Thank you Barry. I have the book along with the first edition and DCS 3rd Edition. All three purchased in Hard Copy and also in PDF format. I purchased a Legacy Cab II unit and am going to hook up. I remember there was a special cable but thought I remembered something about a SER Device from Lionel that would be needed. I will check the 2nd edition of the Wifi For the proper equipment and hookup. AS usual thank you for all you do for the Hobby ( or is it a Life saver and not a Hobby. Yep sure relaxes me! )
Curtis,
Thanks for the kind words - they're appreciated.
The Legacy information is up-to-date and has the complete wiring diagram for using the Lionel SER2 module, either with or without the LCS module.
Just be sure to acquire the proper cable to connect the SER2 to the Legacy command base. There are two different cables, one is used to connect the SER2 directly to the Legacy command base and the other connects the SER2 to an LCS module. Regardless, only one Lionel cable is required.
The MTH cable, #50-1032 TIU/TMCC-Legacy 6' Connector Cable, is always required.
Thank You
Barry
Sorry, but it seems somewhere between the eyes and the brain I am losing something. I DO NOT plan on using the LCS but KNOW according to the instructions and Diagram that I need the SER2. Got that part understood. Questions arise as to if I need to power the Legacy 990 with supplied cord then ALSO use the 6-81499 Lionel LCS DB-9 Cable WITH POWER SUPPLY as on page 279 figure f10? I have no intention of using LCS only DCS Remote and DCS Wifi App.
Second part is page 222, connecting that one wire. If I understand correctly I should NOT connect it to the input side of the TIU as weird things could happen due to signal going through TIU. ALL TRNSFORMERS ARE IN PHASE! Where should I attach the wire so ALL channels can use Legacy. Also does this mean I have to run this wire over to the other side of the layout to catch the other TIU?
Thank You in advance
Curtis
"When looking up ignorant, not too smart and Huh, I discovered my picture as the definition"
I do not list TCA, TCA Division, LOTS, Atlas, MTH and all the other member numbers because honestly it takes too long! Maybe I should not join them ALL BUT I support them cause I care!

First, it's Figure F10 on page 229.
If you aren't using LCS, just use the connection diagram in Figure F10, as indicated.
If I understand correctly I should NOT connect it to the input side of the TIU as weird things could happen due to signal going through TIU.
That's correct.
ALL TRNSFORMERS ARE IN PHASE! Where should I attach the wire so ALL channels can use Legacy.
As long as all TIUs have their Common outputs connected together, the "one wire" can be connected anywhere on the output side of any TIU channel. This can include:
- Any track block's outside rail
- Any Common connection on any track terminal block
- Any TIU channel output.
Barry
Yes you are correct, misread due to bifocals. Even progressive is not good, But hey I gotta see. It was and is page 229.
OK got everything now. Will order SER2 6-81326 and Lionel LCS DB-9 Cable with Power Supply 6-81499. Already had purchased the MTH 50-1032 Cable after having purchased the 50-1018 then seeing I needed the other. Oh Well I got an extra cable so be it.
Thank You for your time.
