how many people put and use bascale bridge on their layouts? I find that these bridges just don't fit into a current layout. They looked great on 50s layout.

yes that looks good I quess it depends where you put it and how it is displayed on the layout
Just thinking more about this. In the 90's, Lionel made a remake in black which might look better on a more detailed layout. Clearance can be an issue though (although there was a website with instructions how to fix that).

The bascule bridge looks great and is impressive when operating. But it really is a very late prewar and mostly postwar accessory. It doesn't have the clearances for modern scale trains, or some of the larger tinplate from the 20s and 30s.
Though this is more a photo of the Weaver Alco FA than it is my Lionel Bascule bridge, it
does give an idea how well Lionel's bridge can fit into a Hi-rail setting, especially if
it is the black version.
Unless you are running modern double-stacks or maybe hi-cubes the clearance -should-
be no problem. Mine is not on the main line for that reason, though I run mostly
steam-era stuff.
I'm wondering if Lionel may be thinking about a new version of the Bascule that will
accept big, modern or oversized load rolling stock? All it would need would be a taller/wider
bridge section and base (kind of like the changes done to the H'gate bridge to accept 2 O-gauge tracks). Of course, talk is cheap, and they also might want to improve
the detailing and realism of the unit, so...
Funny that I never noticed the wires hanging down before...
